CIS Abroad GRANTS
CIS Abroad’s grants are designed to help you navigate some of the financial barriers on the front end of your study or intern abroad process: getting a passport and a flight!
Because these tasks are time-sensitive, our grants function on a “first come, first-served” basis. There are limited spaces for each grant and we announce awards on a rolling basis, so apply early! Find the grant application in your portal.
ELIGIBILITY FOR CIS ABROAD SCHOLARSHIPS & GRANTS

- You must have a minimum GPA of 2.5
- You must be studying at a university based in the UNITED STATES and its territories or CANADA to be eligible
- You must have a completed CIS Abroad application for a Semester, Summer, or Internship program (Students on January Programs and Faculty-Led Programs are not eligible at this time)
- All scholarship & grant application requirements must be submitted by the deadline

- Recipients may only be awarded up to ONE scholarship and ONE grant, but you may submit applications for multiple scholarships and grants
RECOMMENDED EXTERNAL SCHOLARSHIPS

The U.S. Department of State’s Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship is a grant program that enables students of limited financial means to study or intern abroad, thereby gaining skills critical to our national security and economic competitiveness.
The Gilman Scholarship Program is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study and intern abroad programs worldwide.
Award amounts range from $100 to $5,000.

Education in Ireland is proud to partner with Diversity Abroad to announce the creation of the Inclusive Ireland Scholarship Program. Ireland is committed to providing academically rigorous and culturally immersive study abroad experiences for students from all backgrounds and identities.
Education & Ireland & Diversity Abroad are offering five €3000 awards for the Fall 2021 Semester.

Diversity Abroad connects talented diverse and underrepresented students and graduates to international education and career opportunities that will prepare them for leadership in an interconnected world.

Open to high school seniors, community college students, undergraduate and graduate students, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund is committed to assisting students of Hispanic heritage achieve a university degree.
Awards range from $500 to $5,000, based on need.

The Boren Awards are geared towards those students pursuing linguistic studies in underrepresented locations around the world (see website for details). Please note that applicants must commit to working in the federal government upon graduation.
Winners will be awarded a maximum of $8,000 for summer programs, $10,000 for semester programs and $20,000 for programs lasting between 6 to 12 months.

The goal of the Fund for Education Abroad (FEA) is to provide “scholarships and ongoing support to students who are underrepresented among the US study abroad population.” FEA consists of multiple scholarships and applicants are automatically enrolled in all FEA available scholarships.
Scholarships range from $1,250 to $10,000 and can be applied to programs that run for at least 28 days.

Awarded bi-annually, the Tortuga Study Abroad Scholarship is open to most students currently enrolled full time at a four-year, degree-granting US college or university. Applicants must be pursuing their undergraduate degree, be in good standing at their home institution and have applied to OR have been accepted into a credit-bearing semester-long study abroad program.
Winners will be awarded $1,000 and one Tortuga travel backpack.

Open to all students enrolled full-time at a US college or university, Go Overseas awards a winner with a Go Overseas swag bag and $500.
