Fundraising Strategy For South African Refugee Non-Profit
This Non-Profit Organization based in Bellville Cape Town, South Africa and established in 2019, works to create an empowered and integrated refugee community that participates in and promotes a fair and equitable civil society.
South Africa is famously known for receiving the highest number of individual refugee applications in the world with 221,000 in 2009. Little has been mentioned of the challenges that refugees and asylum seekers face in South Africa, with attention shifting to the Syrian Crisis and the influx of refugees into the European Union.
Students will work with a co-founder of the organization who is originally from Zimbabwe and champions the rights of the refugees in South Africa, giving a voice to the voiceless. He takes on a staggering variety of cases across the legal spectrum. He has tackled civil, criminal, discrimination, employment, liability and procedural cases.
This organization seeks to protect and promote the rights of refugees and asylum seekers in Cape Town by promoting their access to the courts and justice systems. They provide free legal assistance in many cases. They also support skills training for refugee women and victims of sexual and gender based violence through a program that teaches women to use sewing as a way to become more self-reliant.
The Fundraising Strategy project aims to create an effective and coherent strategy and implementation plan to raise funds to support 2021 and beyond.
In order to operate and grow, it is imperative that the organization raise funds for 2021 and future years. There is currently a very limited fundraising method has been through grant writing. The client would like the team to take the next steps in developing a fundraising strategy.
Participants will:

- Identify practices and the current donor environment in order to create and implement a fundraising strategy and roadmap.
- Develop project plans for alternative income streams/strategies
Research and create a database of potential funders & partners
- Create a support letter/brochure to use when approaching potential funders & partners
