International Education Week is a joint initiative developed between the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education to “promote programs that prepare Americans for a global environment and attract future leaders from abroad to study, learn, and exchange experiences in the United States.” Here at CISabroad we think this is a very important mission, and treat every week as if it were International Education Week.
One goal we constantly strive for at CISabroad is to make study abroad more accessible to all students. CISabroad joined Generation Study Abroad, which has the goal to double the number of students who study abroad by 2020. Wanting to do more than this, CISabroad pledged to help members of the LGBTQ community study abroad. CISabroad will be focusing on LGBTQ friendly programming and creating and enhancing resources to help the LGBTQ community have successful study abroad experiences. A great example of this is the Alternative Spring Break program that CISabroad is leading in Barcelona, Spain this March. The week is specifically focused on social justice for the LGBTQ community. Students will have the opportunity to explore LGBTQ focused neighborhoods and meet the organizers of Barcelona’s pride festivities.
CISabroad encourages you to get involved and think globally this week!
