As a CIS Abroad participant on a Virtual Global Internship (VGI) program, there are a couple of ways that you can earn credit for your internship.
Option 1: Transferable credit arranged through CIS Abroad
Participants in our VGI program have the option to earn university credit. You can earn three credits for the six week program, either in interdisciplinary studies, or a specific major (majors listed below) through our partnership with Plymouth State University. Listed below are the field and the Plymouth State University course number that will appear on your transcript. Contact an advisor to see if the the following fields are available in your virtual intern location. Please note those career fields for which only pass/no pass grades are available. Upon request, CIS Abroad can issue a grade report listing the letter grade earned by the intern to accompany the PSU transcript.
How is credit awarded?
You will be enrolled in our Virtual Global Internship online module. Credit is awarded based on the successful completion of the online module, live class attendance, and a variety of assignments listed below, according to this grading rubric.
- Pre-program reflection paper based on intern’s goals for the program
- Two guided reflection papers completed by intern during the program
- Mid-term Online Evaluation completed by intern
- Mid-term and Final Evaluations completed by internship supervisor
- Summative reflection paper and LinkedIn profile synthesizing the overall learning experience
Upon completion of your virtual internship, you will produce a video, presentation, or similar deliverable (to be determined in consultation with their internship supervisor) which presents the outcomes/results of your internship to your supervisor.
The amount of credit is awarded based on the number of hours spent interning:
- 120 work hours = enrollment in one 6 week VGI session = 3 credits
Interns will receive a transcript 6-10 weeks after the program term ends stating the grade and the number of credits earned.

What’s the difference between a grade report and a transcript?
A transcript is an official document, issued by an accredited college or university, that lists the course taken, credits earned, and grade earned. A grade report is an unofficial document that includes the same details, but issued by CIS Abroad.
