Jeff Palm

Founder and Executive Director

Jeff holds a BA degree in Biology from the College of Saint Scholastica (MN) and an MA in Management from Hawaii Pacific University. Jeff's international experiences include working in Europe, Asia and Africa during his tenure as Associate Director of International Admissions at Hawaii Pacific University, international program development in Europe and Australasia, and in business and "pleasure" travel to more than 30 countries. As the Director, Jeff is primarily responsible for managing the strategic direction of the company as well as in developing and maintaining the relationships with CIS's overseas educational partners. Outside of the office, Jeff keeps busy hiking, snowshoeing, playing basketball, surfing (only in warm water) and spending as much time as he can with his wife, sons and dog.
Kris Holloway

Kris is the author of a travel narrative, Monique and the Mango Rains: Two Years with a Midwife in Mali, based on her experience as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mali, West Africa. As Kris will tell you, "my study abroad experience in France during undergrad and my time in the Peace Corps formed the way I think about the world and the people in it. I am so excited to connect students with the overseas education that can change their lives." Kris holds a MPH in administration and education from the University of Michigan and has used her unique background in writing, public health, and strategic planning to further the mission of numerous non-profits and educational institutions including Planned Parenthood, the National Priorities Project, the University of Michigan, Springfield College, and the Greenbelt Movement International. She is a confirmed Francophile, a devoted (if slow) runner, loves chocolate, and sits on a physio ball while at her computer. She lives in Northampton, MA with her husband, two sons, and their giant black poodle.
Scott Tayloe

Scott is a twice-graduate of Jacksonville University with a BS in Aeronautics and an MBA. During his undergraduate college career, Scott studied and volunteered abroad in Australia, Costa Rica, France, Portugal and the Philippines. Scott received his pilots license at the age of 17, backpacked Europe at 18 and has since visited 6 continents - with the hopes of visiting Antarctica soon. He is originally from St. Louis, Missouri but has lived in Jacksonville, Florida for the past 10 years.
Scott enjoys playing on the beach with his dogs or planning his next trip abroad. In his current role at CIS, Scott is the Director of Customized Programs helping faculty and advisors plan their own trips to incredible destinations.
Joe Debiec

Joe Debiec received a BA in Anthropology from Vassar College and an MA in International Education from the School for International Training. While growing up Joe was always on the move, but stayed close to home in the Adirondack Mountains of Upstate NY. His international adventures began in East Africa during his junior year of college, and since then he has spent the majority of this time abroad. Joe has studied, lived and worked in Japan, Thailand, Senegal, Oman, Kenya and Vietnam. These days many of Joe’s adventures take place close to his home, in Northampton, MA. Among Joe’s favorite activities are eating sushi, drinking micro-roasted coffee, scuba-diving, relaxing in hot spring bath houses, exploring places for the first time, bicycling, snowshoeing and snowboarding.
Jessica Sztaimberg

Jessica is a native Cantabrigian (from Cambridge, MA), but she has spent a semester living in Sydney, Australia, 3 months in Spain, and a month in Ukraine. She has visited 10 countries and 4 continents, and is addicted to traveling! Jessica is currently working on her Masters in International Education at the School for International Training and is extremely passionate about study abroad and cultural exchange. She has worked in various capacities in the field of international education, and will now be coordinating programs at CISabroad.
Jessica has dabbled in both Spanish and Ukrainian language learning, but is most fluent in English. She enjoys a bit of adventure when she can, and has so far tried skydiving, tarzan- swinging, zip lining, glacier hiking, kayaking, white water rafting, scuba, snorkel, and rock climbing. Her biggest brag moment may just be her climb to the top of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in Sydney!
At home, Jessica is most happy with iced coffee, glossy magazines, HGTV, the travel channel, and exotic food. Pretty new to Northampton, she is excited to explore the area!
Kelly Anderson

Kelly grew up in rural New York where she had her first exposure to French life and culture at
the age of 12 - her family hosted a French exchange student for three weeks over the summer.
After this experience, Kelly became more and more interested in learning the language and the
culture of France. Her family went on to host two more exchange students and travel to France,
Montreal, and Quebec before going to college. As a junior at Dickinson College, she spent 10
months in Toulouse, France, living with a French family, attending the local university, and
working as an intern at a photography gallery. She also had the opportunity to travel to England,
Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Monaco, Italy, Greece, and all around France
during her time there. In her free time, Kelly enjoys travelling, reading, watching movies, hiking,
kayaking, and cuddling with her cat, Hemingway.
Katie Ahlman

Katie Ahlman has been in love with learning about global diversity since the 3rd grade when her class did a project on Kuwait. Frustrated that her schools didn’t offer more courses on other cultures, she began her own explorations that took her to Costa Rica, Cuba, Ghana, and more places in between. Her childhood passion turned in to her career and an MA in Comparative and International Development Education from the University of Minnesota. Katie's work focuses on helping other people discover their own love of travel and other cultures. Her travels have taken her to Northampton, MA where she looks forward to establishing roots and helping more people find their love of "The Other."
Marquisa Regnier

Marquisa is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area and a graduate of Saint Mary's College of California. At SMC she got her BA in International Studies with a concentration in Western Europe and double majored in Spanish. She first studied abroad in Cuernavaca, Mexico, where she became fluent in Spanish and fell in love with traveling and then later studied in Madrid, Spain. She considers herself an honorary Madrileña after having adopted the lifestyle in 2008 and traveled in France, Italy and Morocco. She recently moved to Massachusetts and is happy to be closer to Europe for more travel opportunities. In her free time she spends time with her husband, cat and enjoys attending Spanish conversation groups to keep fluent.
Brian Waldron

Brian grew up in the Mid-Coast Maine town of Camden. During University he studied abroad in both Ecuador and Namibia, quickly realizing travel and international education would be a major part of his lifelong journey. Since graduation, Brian has lived and worked in South Korea, Argentina, Mexico, England, and Ecuador. He now finds himself living in Northampton, MA, enjoying the US lifestyle once again. Brian enjoys reading, playing basketball, biking, a cold micro-brew, good friends, and delicious, exotic food.
Ashley Hiehiapo

Ashley is from Scituate, MA and received her BA degree in Political Science and American History from the University of New Hampshire. She also attended the Universidad de Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain where she earned a minor in Spanish. Her love for travel, culture and language began in middle school when she traveled to Quebec with her seventh grade French class. Later, in high school, Ashley participated in a French cultural exchange program where she lived with a home-stay family in Rouen, France while attending French school and immersing herself in French culture. While studying at university, Ashley studied abroad twice in Heredia, Costa Rica and in Salamanca, Spain. After graduation, she joined the Peace Corps and volunteered in Tonga where she met her husband. She and her husband just recently moved to Easthampton, MA and love the mountainous landscape the Pioneer Valley holds, as they both love the outdoors. Ashley speaks fluent Spanish, Tongan, and conversational French. She loves dancing, singing, traveling, speaking different languages and being with friends and family. Some of her travels include Tonga, Mexico, Canada, extensive travel throughout Europe and Latin America, and a road trip across the United States with her two best friends.
Elayna Hebert

Elayna traveled to Montreal, Canada in high school, and fell in love. Although it was a brief love affair, it left a very memorable impression on her and a desire to return to Canada, and beyond. She is responsible for day-to-day coordination of all HR, IT, office A/P & A/R, and general office management. Elayna is an avid, albeit untidy, organic gardener. Her passions in life are the fabulous world of visual arts, all things French, and Scrabble. She spends her small amount of ‘spare time’ with her husband, watching her young daughter grow with wonder, and planning their future fantasy life living in southern France. Elayna lives in South Deerfield with her husband, daughter and their guard-cat, Phil.

Stephanie Forgette

Born and raised in Paris, Stephanie decided to take a sabbatical year from La Sorbonne Nouvelle and arrived at the University of Massachusetts in 1997. Since then, she has settled in Easthampton and has traveled around the US, in Mexico and Canada.
When her head is not buried into budget numbers, she relaxes by cooking and painting. She also has translated a half dozen management books into French, and has taught classes at the Amherst Regional High School.
Brittany Garand

Brittany recently graduated from Westfield State University with a Bachelor's of Arts in Liberal Studies, concentrating in Marketing, Communication and Management. She has previously worked in the International Programs Office at Westfield State University, where she discovered her passion for travel. She studied at the University of Limerick in the Fall 2009 semester, and traveled to Europe again in May 2012. Brittany resides in her Holyoke hometown with her boyfriend and Potatoes the dog.
Kailee Sanchez

Student Advising Center Manager
Kailee graduated from Colorado State University with a BS in Business Administration and Marketing concentration. She completed her Spanish minor while studying abroad in Madrid, Spain. She caught the travel bug in high school while participating in a Spanish summer travel program and later returned to Spain to finish courses for her Spanish minor. She fell in love with Madrid and was able to travel extensively throughout Spain and Europe while living abroad. She is passionate about sharing the wonders of travel, experiencing new cultures and Harry Potter. She was once given a real wand but claims to have never tried to use it.
Andrew Sexton

Study Abroad Advisor
Andrew is a native of Australia who grew up in 3 states and 5 cities/towns of that country, living by swamps, beaches, rainforest and the bush. He has studied I.T at Deakin University in Geelong, Victoria and completed a diploma in Graphic Design at the Gordon Tafe of Geelong. His primary passions include table tennis, gaming, taking things apart and putting them back together again, and fancy beers. He has travelled to Bali and Vanuatu, and plans to visit his best friend in Denmark later this year.
Chris Batchelder

Study Abroad Advisor
Chris has lived and worked in various countries throughout the world and plans to keep his list growing. He believes that making friends on site is the best way of understanding cultures. Tourism offers rich history and activities to the student abroad, but Chris advises that getting off the beaten path is the key ingredient to a life changing study abroad experience. When Chris travels, eating the local cuisine is hands down his favorite activity. Some notable triumphs of his consist of raw horse in Japan and sheep face in Morocco. As a Student Advisor, Chris is dedicated to giving you the most relevant information that will enhance your travel experience.
In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, cooking, camping, reading, and writing. Chris conquered Keene State College and plundered a BA in psychology with minors in communications and Italian from the spoils.
Stephanie McCarthy

Study Abroad Advisor
Stephanie is currently a senior at the University of Massachusetts Amherst with a declared major in political science. In her Junior year, she studied down under for a semester in Brisbane, Australia. Throughout her journey there, she traveled to various major cities and towns in Australia and spent a three week vacation exploring Thailand. Highlights of her adventures include feeding leopards in Bangkok, riding elephants in Koh Samui, and cheering on her favorite horse at the Melbourne Cup. Stephanie now looks forward to graduating and having more opportunities to see what the rest of the world has to offer!
Rachael Capuano

Study Abroad Advisor
A native of Vancouver, Washington, Rachael is currently a senior at Western New England University finishing her degree in Political Science and Spanish. She fell in love with Spanish culture when she spent two months in high school in Valladolid, Spain, learning the language and eating tapas. Her junior year of college, Rachael returned to Spain, living in Alicante for a semester. Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, and Morocco were some of her favorite places to explore with her amigas. Rachael is an avid coffee drinker, pug-enthusiast, and chocoholic. In her free time, she loves camping with her family and exploring new cities. One day Rachael hopes to return to Spain to teach abroad, and share a dance with Derek Jeter.
Amber Kettmann

Amber holds a BA in Counseling from Keene State College and a Master of Leadership Studies in Higher Education from North Central College. As an undergrad, Amber studied abroad in both Italy and Greece. As a grad student, she was fortunate enough to spend time in Brazil conducting research on short-term study abroad programs. Amber is passionate about promoting different worldviews and new ways of thinking among students, and firmly believes that we should all be constantly challenged to move beyond our comfort zones at any stage in life. Although Amber is and always will be a New Hampshire girl at heart, she thoroughly enjoyed the mini-culture shock she received while living in Chicago for several years, and is now enjoying life in Fort Collins, Colorado.
Keith Born

Keith graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with majors in Spanish and International Studies. While at the UW he studied abroad for a semester in Seville, Spain, worked as a Spanish tutor and played an active role in promoting study abroad on campus. Keith's recent overseas experiences include leading programs to Ecuador, Hawaii, Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic; living in Oaxaca, Mexico; and traveling to Argentina, Chile and Peru. Keith is a recent transplant to Colorado, where he spends much of his time atop bikes and mountains (and frequently both). He is currently pursuing an Internet Marketing Certificate through University of California, Irvine.
Emily Mickewicz

Emily received a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing and minor in International Studies from the University of Connecticut. Her journey towards a career in international education began when she travelled to China in high school and later studied abroad in Seville, Spain and returned to work as a Language and Culture Assistant in Malaga, Spain. These experiences helped her to gain an understanding of and appreciation for different cultures and a desire to help other students have similar transformational experiences. She is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in International Education from SIT Graduate Institute and in her free time enjoys cooking, painting, arts and crafts projects, being outside, going to cafes, hanging out with her niece and nephew, people watching, and exploring different places around wherever she’s living!
Shanna Delfs

Shanna is a Midwest girl who grew up in Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University with a BA in Journalism and Mass Communication. Her love for travel began when she spent an adventurous semester in the beach town of Newcastle, Australia. While studying abroad, Shanna enjoyed making friends with the locals, hanging out at the beach, traveling up the coast of Australia and even got to scuba dive the Great Barrier Reef. After graduating from college, she packed her bags and moved back to Australia for round two. She lived the Aussie lifestyle for eight months in the vibrant city of Sydney and then decided to move back to the US and help students discover their own adventures abroad. When Shanna is not on the road, she enjoys spending time tailgating with college friends and cheering on her ISU Cyclones, riding her bike, reading, dancing and attending kickboxing classes! At the moment Shanna resides in Council Bluffs, Iowa, but is looking to relocate to the Windy City of Chicago this coming fall!
Leah Meyer

Leah graduated from the University of Nebraska- Lincoln with a BA in Spanish and European Studies. During her undergraduate she spent a year in Spain, studying Spanish literature and philology, working as a conversational teacher in the local high school, and tutoring young children in English. With a love of helping others study abroad, she has interned at the International Affairs offices at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and Omaha and also worked with the Lincoln International Network Community. Settled in Nebraska, she enjoys cooking, knitting and yoga and is excited to try her hand at gardening with her fiancé.
Meaghan Murphy

Meaghan has a BA in Psychology and a minor in Women’s Studies from Wheaton College in Massachusetts and is currently pursuing an MA in International Education from the School for International Training in Brattleboro, VT. While at Wheaton, she studied abroad in Auckland, New Zealand, which gave her the inspiration to work with education abroad programs. In addition to New Zealand, she has visited Australia, Italy, and Greece, and looks forward to traveling to South America, Africa, and Asia in the future. Meaghan loves playing her djembe drum, throwing a football around, watching soccer, spending quality time with her friends and family, and is always ready for roller coasters and other adrenaline-filled activities.
Tammen Nicholson

Tammen has a bachelor’s degree from Springfield College in Sport Management. During his sophomore year of college, he studied abroad at Bond University on Australia’s Gold Coast. From there he became hooked on international study and travel. The following year he backpacked through Central and Eastern Europe before spending a semester in York, England. After experiencing the varied cultures of the two continents he became extremely intrigued by international development. A sports fanatic, Tammen loves anything to do with organized, recreational, (and especially) non-profit sports. He tries to spend as much of his time as he can outdoors and is always up for a game of Frisbee.
Nick Vasiloff

Nick is a graduate from the University of Evansville with a BA in Spanish/International Studies. During his undergraduate years he spent a semester in England, a summer in Guadalajara, Mexico, and another summer in the Yucatan Peninsula. As a second-generation Greek-American, he has lived in northern Greece and had the opportunity to travel through Europe, including France, Spain, Germany and Macedonia. He currently calls Columbus, Ohio home, and enjoys studying foreign languages, watching soccer, dancing, eating baklava, and spending time with his big fat Greek family.
Mollie Kaubrys

University Relations Representative

Mollie is a graduate of American University in Washington, DC, where she earned a BA in International Studies and a minor in History. A concentration in Eastern European Studies led Mollie to spend a wondrous semester in Prague. She got to visit many European cities while abroad, but her favorite trips were to small towns in the Czech, German, and Polish countryside- especially when she was invited to attend a Czech country wedding. When Mollie is not working, you can usually find her skiing, hiking, or supporting her beloved Red Sox. A native of a small town in the mountains of Maine, Mollie is looking forward to being back in New England and taking advantage of all that Northampton has to offer.
Kylie Gallagher

Kylie holds a BA in Intercultural Studies and International Politics from Westminster College and is currently pursuing her Masters of Arts in International Education at SIT Graduate Institute. As an undergrad, Kylie studied abroad three times. She studied tropical ecology in Australia snorkeling the Great Barrier Reef daily and hiking through rainforests. In Ireland, she studied politics and enjoyed getting to know the locals through music and dancing. Lastly in Spain, she fell in love with the Spanish language while staying with her host family. Her various positions in study abroad offices have allowed her to travel extensively in Europe, Latin America, and Australia. Kylie is dedicated to assisting students have their own life changing experiences because her experiences abroad proved to be so transformational. She is a firm believer in facing your fears and taking advantage of each opportunity life offers along your journey, no matter how awkward or uncomfortable it ma y be. Originally from Pittsburgh, this girl finds herself most at home in the Pacific Northwest in Washington State. When she's not aiding students in planning their international endeavors or working on grad school, she can be found drinking coffee, practicing yoga, reading (anything and everything!), hiking, cooking for friends, and preparing for new adventures.
Jordan Randall
University Relations Representative
Jordan is a graduate of The University of Southern Mississippi and has a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design and a minor in Theatre. In high school, Jordan traveled to Saltillo, Mexico as a volunteer, then went on to visit Paris, France, where her love of traveling began. She returned to France to study abroad during her time as an undergrad and explored Spain, the Netherlands, and Italy during her semester overseas. Jordan also spent a summer helping manage a study abroad program in London, which is what sparked her interest working in education abroad. When she isn't traveling, Jordan enjoys crafting, drinking coffee, reading, gardening, cooking, and spending time with friends.
Erika Roitblat

University Relations Representative
A Cleveland, Ohio native, Erika graduated from Ohio University in 2012 with a BA in Political Science. During her four short years at Ohio University she picked up Mandarin Chinese and realized that the opportunity to studying abroad in China was too amazing to pass up! In the summer of 2010 she decided to go on an intensive language program to Beijing. Traveling to China was Erika's first time outside the U.S. and she has been itching for new international adventures ever since! When she reflects on her study abroad she realizes how much it changed her as a student, a person, and as a member of society. A year after her return, a job to become a peer advisor became available at the study abroad office at Ohio University and she seized the opportunity to take on this position. She would now be able to use her passion to help other OU students study abroad. Erika is incredibly excited to start the next chapter of her post-college life working in an environment that allows her to be part of helping students realize the incredible opportunity that studying abroad is, how unique an experience, and how priceless a memory it will be. Erika also hopes to one day say she has traveled to every continent on the planet (and hopefully more than once)!
Lauren Price

Lauren is originally from Colorado Springs, currently pursing a double major in Business Administration and Sociology at Colorado State University. As a native Coloradoan, she loves all outdoor activities including whitewater rafting, mountain biking, and hiking. Lauren has discovered an undying passion for adventure through travel. In fact, her lifelong goal is to never allow her age to surpass the number of countries she has explored. After returning from Dominica in December, she is staying consistent with her goal at twenty-one countries traveled! When Lauren is not dedicating her time to work and school, she loves spending time with her family and one-eyed dog, Shelly.
Claire Novotny

Claire graduated from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst with a Bachelors degree in Anthropology. During her sophomore year she studied abroad in Argentina and fell in love with South America. Over the next couple of years she was able to travel to and study in numerous South and Central American cities. Claire has been to over 20 countries but her desire to learn about the world’s cultures and languages has not yet been fulfilled, will it ever be? Claire is a Northampton, MA native and now lives down the street from where she grew up! These days you can catch her walking around town, rock climbing with friends, singing in the car and teaching English in a café!
Leah Meyer

Alyx Raffo

Customized Programs Coordinator - Logistics
Alyx, a recent graduate from Western New England University, embarked on her first international adventure at the young age of 10 when she traveled to Australia and New Zealand with her family. The trip left her intrigued by the land down under and inspired her to return for an unforgettable semester at Bond University in the Gold Coast, Australia. Aside from Australia, Alyx has traveled to exciting destinations such as Denmark, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, the Czech Republic, and South Africa. While she does not have any big travel plans at the moment, she enjoys weekend getaways to visit family and friends in the mean time! Having always loved Northampton, she is excited to live and work in the area while still being close enough to WNE to cheer on the Golden Bears!
Yury Torres

Customized Programs Assistant
Yury is currently a senior at Western New England University with a major in International Business and Economics. During his sophomore year he did an International Business Programme in Manchester Business School where he had the opportunity to travel to different European Countries. Over the years he has been in more than ten different countries experiencing different cultures and learning about the global environment. He was born in Quito, Ecuador and moved to the United States four years ago.
