As a CIS study abroad student, you’ll get outstanding support. We’re with you every step of the way with academic advising, personal help, and cultural counseling. We’ll make sure that when you arrive in Mexico, you hit the ground running. Your summer will start off with airport pickup, where you will be greeted by our on-site staff who will then take you to your accommodations. They will get you settled with an orientation to the campus and the city to start your summer off right. Throughout your time there, you can take part in an extensive variety of campus events and activities with your new international friends. On top of it all, Summer in Mexico includes 3 day trips of your choice (see the pyramids at Teotihuacan or the caverns of Cacahuamilpa) and a weekend in the famous port of Acapulco!
Cuernavaca is a lovely place to explore, with lots of cultural activities and sights to see. Art exhibitions, historical museums, theater events, music, and dancing abound, and of course it’s only an hour from Mexico City. There are numerous activities on campus too, cooking classes, language conversation clubs, and dance classes. The sports staff on campus organizes weekly games in a variety of sports for students to take part in. Some of the more popular campus activities are soccer, basketball, tennis, salsa, and contemporary dance classes. There is also the café socials where students meet at a different restaurant every week to practice their Spanish in an out-of-class environment. There is always something for you to get involved in!
UI also has a wonderful Service Learning course for you to further immerse yourself into the Mexican culture. Learn about certain issues facing the area you are in, and then do your part by giving back to the community in Morelos. This is an excellent way to engage in Spanish language practice, and assist the local community.
