Summer in Perugia is housed at the Umbra Institute, which offers courses in a wide variety of subjects, including art history, history, Italian studies, international business, literature, marketing, political science, studio art, and more. Choose the General Studies track or focus on learning Italian with the Italian through Culture Program.
GPA Required: 2.75. If you find your GPA is lower than the requirement, do not despair! Use the "Contact An Advisor" button on this page or call us to let us know your situation. We'll do all we can to find the right program for you.
How to choose your courses
Now for the fun part! As part of the application process you will be required to complete the CISabroad Course Selection Worksheet found in the CISabroad Application Page. The following instructions will guide you through the steps of choosing your courses.
Course load: 1–2 classes (3–6 credits).
Course approval: Before you go abroad, it is best to get 3–4 classes approved for your summer program. This gives you some flexibility in setting up your class schedule. Think about courses required for your major, but also courses that fulfill your elective requirements.

If you choose the General Studies track, you don’t have to enroll in an Italian class—but we do recommend it!
Intensive Italian Language through Culture
If you are interested in an immersive Italian-language studies program, you’ll love our 8-credit Intensive Italian Language through Culture program. Full-time study is coupled with rich co-curricular cultural activities. Cinema nights, language-exchange sessions, dinners, socials, museum visits, and local tours will complement your in-class learning. With this program, which is conducted entirely in Italian, you’ll learn and practice as much Italian as possible during the summer. It’s open to all students.
The daily program includes:
3 hours of language instruction (comprehension)
1 hour of language exercises (application)
1 hour of conversation (integration)
In addition, cultural activities and lectures in Italian are scheduled in the evenings and on Fridays, to enrich your study and practice of the language. The following courses are available to Italian through Culture students:
