On Summer in Ireland, you’ll take one course in literature, culture, film, sociology, or law at the University of Limerick, which has quickly gained a reputation among its peers for its innovative courses and high academic standards. The University is also home to some fine collections of Irish art, the Irish Chamber Orchestra, and the Irish World Music Center.

All courses are taught by University of Limerick faculty and are worth 3 UL credits, and you will enroll in one course. Courses vary a bit from summer to summer; the following courses were offered in 2010:
Irish Life and Literature
Of interest to students of literature, history, folklore, cultural studies, and liberal arts. It has 3 strands: History of Modern Ireland; Irish Literature in English; Irish Folklore and Folklife.
Visual Culture in Ireland 1400–1950
For students of history, art history, art, and film studies, this course covers the development of Irish and European art from the medieval to the modern.
Screening Ireland: Ireland in Film and Television
For students of media and communications studies, film, cultural studies, anthropology, linguistic anthropology, linguistics, and sociology. Topics include Representing Ireland in Film and Documentary; Sociology of Irish Media; Television and the Representation of Gender, Ethnicity and Class;
Sociological Perspectives on Irish Society
For students of sociology, social anthropology, social policy, and cultural studies. Topics include Globalization and Social Change; Mass Media; Immigration and Racism, Gender, Exclusion and Inequality.
Law in Ireland
A concise but comprehensive overview of the Irish legal system, this will be of particular interest to social science, politics, and prelaw students. The School is divided into 4 sections: the institutions of the Irish state; Irish and European law; criminal law; and law-making and/or legal practice in Ireland. There will be a visit to the Irish Parliament.
