Australian Experience—Uluru & the Outback truly is a traveling course! You will visit North Stradbroke Island, Canberra, Sydney, the Red Center, Darwin, and the Gold Coast.

North Stradbroke Island is an enticing blend of rugged coastal landscape, tranquil inland lakes, and pristine beaches just an hour from Brisbane. You will visit a university research station while on the Island.

Canberra, the capital of Australia, is a modern city set within extensive parks and gardens. It enjoys 4 distinct seasons. You will spend several days in Canberra for tours, presentations, and classes using the resources of national institutions like the National Museum of Australia, the Houses of Parliament, the National War Memorial, the National Gallery, and others.

In Sydney, Australia’s oldest city, you will learn more about the early convict era and visit modern icons like the Sydney Harbor Bridge and Opera House. Sydney is a cosmopolitan city surrounded by the iconic beaches, World Heritage areas, lush hinterland, and acclaimed wine regions of New South Wales.

The Red Center is another name for the desert area located right in the center of Australia. The region gets its name from its red sand and rocks. You will visit Uluru, Watarrka, and Alice Springs. In Uluru (Ayer’s Rock) you’ll observe the amazing variety of flora and fauna that flourishes in this area. In Watarrka (King’s Canyon) you will continue your exploration of the wonderful geography, geology, and human history of Central Australia. Then you’ll visit Alice Springs, a small, isolated, but lively city rich in history, with famous visitor attractions like the Desert Wildlife Park.

Darwin is the Northern Territory's multicultural capital, famed for its markets and festivals, Asian cuisine, and massive natural harbor. Your time in Darwin will take you into the tropics, home to a completely different range of animals (including crocodiles) and plants.

The subtropical Gold Coast, Australia's most popular tourist destination, is known for its beautiful beaches and scenic hinterland attractions. It’s a safe, friendly area for students. You will take at least one full day’s excursion to the beautiful rainforest areas in the ranges just to the west.
