Australian Experience—Uluru & the Outback is a 6-week program that takes place from early June to mid-July. Its focus is learning by experience. Field trips to key locations throughout Eastern Australia include seminars and supervised assignment components.

Australian Geography and Ecology: An introduction
This course introduces you to Australia’s geography and to the social and economic aspects of settlement patterns and development. You will examine the country’s variety of physical environments, the biological processes that influence and shape its landscape, and the influence of its geography and climate on the changing patterns of the human population. You will also explore the diversity, biology, ecology, and conservation of Australia’s unique flora and fauna, looking at the wide variety of terrestrial and aquatic habitats found across the continent, from the subtropical areas of southeast Queensland to the tropical north and central desert regions.
Australian History and Culture
This course tells the story of modern Australia, starting with the arrival of the first European settlers in the late 18th century. It is the story of the impact of the colonial settlers on the lives of indigenous Australians, and of the changing patterns of life and society during the 19th and 20th centuries. The course also examines how Australians see themselves and their country. You will to read, watch, and listen to a wide range of material, including current local news and commentary in all media. You will also visit several of Australia’s most important national cultural museums and art galleries to gain an appreciation of the changing interpretations of Australian landscapes and life offered by creative artists over hundreds of years.
