As a CIS student, you’ll be met at the airport by Suffolk Madrid staff, who will escort you to your chosen accommodation. After you arrive, you will be given a thorough orientation of Madrid and taken on an excursion outside of the city. Excursions vary each semester, but past orientations have been run in Caceres, Andalucía, Salamanca, Seville, and Galicia. The program includes intensive Spanish lessons, an academic orientation, and many excursions to historically, culturally, and environmentally important local sites.
Students come to the Madrid campus from Eastern and Western Europe, Spain, Africa, Asia, and the US, making for a truly international and cross-cultural setting. The Semester in Madrid program offers 24-hour online access to library resources in Boston while maintaining its own permanent collection of books and CD-ROM resources. The program provides you with computer access and you own e-mail account.
One reason our Madrid program is so popular is the number of excursions included in the program fee. During the semester you will get to see many of Spain's most popular cities. Frequent extracurricular events are also offered in Madrid, such as walking tours, museum visits, bullfights, and so on. Gourmet dinners are often arranged and are a satisfying way for students to get to know one another! The Athletics Department organizes soccer, basketball, and tennis leagues, as well as ski trips. You can also use the facilities at a local gym for a moderate fee. Additionally, cultural activities are planned in conjunction with Universidad San Pablo CEU, a Spanish university in Madrid. During these activities you will have the chance to meet Spanish students, communicate in both Spanish and English, and really learn more about the culture, which can only enhance your study abroad experience!
