Semester in Madrid

A modern, American education in Madrid! Our Semester in Madrid combines the essential elements of an American campus abroad with the culture, vivaciousness, and cosmopolitan lifestyle of Spain’s capital city.

Semester in Madrid offers fabulous housing options both on- and off-campus.  Tap into the vibrant life and meet other students in a residence hall, live a more independent life style in an off-campus apartment, or immerse yourself in the local culture by living with a Spanish family.  The choice is yours!

Here are your options:

1. Residence halls will offer students a warm and friendly international environment.  Rooms will come fully furnished with a bed, wardrobe, and desk.  All of the bed linens, blankets, and towels will be provided for students.  Each student will have access to a common area where you will be able to use the television and a computer.  Laundry services are available for students staying in residence halls, and there is a meal plan option for students that include 10 meals per week.  During orientation, students will be able to find out where to shop for groceries and other supplies.

2. University-sponsored apartments are located off-campus but are within walking distance or close to a public transportation route to allow for an easy commute to class.  The apartment comes fully furnished, with a kitchen, living area, bedroom, and bathroom.  There is no meal plan for students who choose to live in an apartment however there is stipend for food.  Students will be able to cook for themselves in the apartment’s well-equipped kitchen.  Students will be given information during the orientation about where to shop for groceries and other items.  This option is perfect for CIS students who want a more independent lifestyle while studying abroad!

3. The home stay option is perfect for those students that are interested in a truly immersive experience! You will be living with a local family which is an amazing way to improve your Spanish and learn more about the culture.  Students will live in either a shared or single room, and the host family will provide two meals (breakfast and either lunch or dinner) to the student each day.  Students will have access to the internet as well as laundry and cleaning services.

*Please keep in mind that home stays in Spain generally consist of a room rented privately, and you may be living not with a traditional nuclear family but with an older woman or a young professional. [P] Whatever option you choose, you can’t go wrong. You will have a supportive, enjoyable experience full of opportunities to meet new friends from a variety of backgrounds!
