The January in New Zealand program will take place over 6 weeks between early January and mid-February. You will study at the oldest university in New Zealand, the University of Otago, an institution well recognized for the quality of its research and teaching. It is one of the few universities in the world where the main activity of its host city, Dunedin, is education. You will earn 6 credits during the program, and you will be free to choose subjects from an array of disciplines.
GPA Required: 3.0. If you find your GPA is lower than the requirement, do not despair! Use the "Contact An Advisor" button on this page or call us to let us know your situation. We'll do all we can to find the right program for you.
How to choose your courses
Now the fun part! As part of the application process you will be required to complete the CISabroad Course Selection Worksheet found in the CISabroad Application Page. The following instructions will guide you through the steps of choosing your courses. You can choose courses in the following academic areas: Art History, Business and Economics, Geography, Maori Studies, Modern Languages, and Sciences.
Course load: 2 papers (courses) (8 US credits)
Course approval: It is best to get 3 classes approved before you go abroad. This gives you some flexibility in setting up your class schedule. Think about courses required for your major, but also courses that fulfill your elective requirements.

How to read the University of Otago course catalog:
You will find “papers,” or courses, offered at the 100, 200, and 300 levels. The 200- and 300-level papers are often equivalent to courses you would take in your junior and senior years in the US. They will have prerequisites. Papers above the 300 level are graduate-level.
Select courses offered in Dunedin only. You’ll note that some course have other locations listed after the course name, for exampled Auckland or Wellington.
