Does Rome need an introduction? Roma is the City of Seven Hills, the “capital of the world,” and la Città Eterna—the Eternal City, listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. For almost 3 millennia the city has withstood natural disaster, internal strife, and multiple wars to emerge glorious and indomitable. There is something unique about Rome and its rich history, and today it conveys a paradoxical blend of old and new that enchants even the most stoic visitor. In fact, in 2007 it was named 11th most visited city in the world!
Rome is the capital city of Italy and home to approximately 2.7 million residents. That said, most visitors don’t experience it as an overwhelmingly big city. The city enjoys a Mediterranean climate, with mild weather year-round. Famous for its Architecture and multitude of art and statues, buildings and ruins, it is a history-lover’s dream city. It also appeals to the curious traveler with so many narrow streets and beautiful neighborhoods. With the Vatican, Pantheon, piazzas and fountains, catacombs and gardens, you will never want for something to do.
And the food? You will certainly never be hungry in this country. Italians tend to be known for their delicious cuisine of pizza, pasta and gelato. There is a lot to be learned from the way Italians prepare and enjoy their meals. The food in Italy is truly a cultural experience of which you will have plenty during your semester in Rome!
