Semester in Ghana

Learn about Ghana with classes in subjects like West African music and dance, African foreign relations, and sustainable development. Best of all, learn in classes with local professors and students and immerse yourself in the traditions of this beautiful coastal city.

As a CIS study abroad student, you’ll get outstanding support. We’re with you every step of the way with academic advising, personal help, and cultural counseling. We’ll make sure you hit the ground running and don’t miss a thing. It can be difficult (and very exciting) jumping into a new culture, but rest assured we will help to make the process as smooth as possible for you. When you arrive in Ghana, an extensive orientation program will introduce you to life in Ghana and at your new University. You will receive the official list of courses from which you will choose for the semester, and you will be registering for these classes within your first few days in Ghana. You will also have many opportunities to meet other international students, take an extensive tour the campus, and get a general feel for your new home in Cape Coast.

You will have ample opportunities to get involved in your location community through some volunteering options that will benefit both your personal goals and the new community in which you will be living. Between these activities, your school work and cultural integration, you’ll definitely keep busy and always have something to do. Throughout the semester, CIS plans excursions and cultural activities that allow you to see the country and better understand local customs. This is very important to ensure that you are getting the most culture out of your experience as possible. Typical destinations include Accra, the capital of the country; a regional village, where you will see traditional living and governance; Kumasi, with a stop at the Manhyia Palace, residence of the Ashanti King; the Assin Manso Slave Market; and more.
