Semester in Melbourne

Study in Melbourne, the cultural capital of Australia, birthplace of Australian film and art. Here you'll find a vibrant campus, and student-friendly city life.

As part of Semester in Melbourne, you will take part in the 5-day Great Barrier Reef Culture and Adventure Program. Exciting excursions over land and sea introduce you to Aussie life! We’ll prepare you for the cultural changes you may encounter and give you a chance to experience the Great Barrier Reef up close. Plus, you will meet other study abroad students heading to La Trobe.

On campus, International Programs Office provides a comprehensive orientation program for all international students. You’ll get all the tools you need to settle in quickly and make the most of your time in Melbourne and in Australia. In addition, during orientation week and throughout the semester you and other CIS students can take advantage of the Down Under Program. Through presentations, speakers, tastings, and films, you will experience what "being Australian" is really about instead of reading a bunch of catchphrases in a book.

The study-minded will find that the University's buildings and facilities are among the best in Australia. The main library, Borchardt Library, is recognized as one of the leading university libraries in Australia, with more than a million volumes as well as sophisticated information technology. The University also houses various cafés and restaurants; a bar; a hairdresser, a travel agent, and a dry cleaner; bookstores, banks, a cinema, and a weekly market; and a medical center hospital, a dentist, and optometrist.

Are you the athletic type? Numerous options will keep you fit and happy. La Trobe's sports facilities include a heated swimming pool, a gymnasium, tennis courts, basketball courts, and extensive sports fields.

Not into sports? No problem! The University has ample opportunities for you too. You can get involved with the radio station, political parties, environmental groups, a women's group, religious groups, and many more social groups – a great way to meet people on campus!
