CISabroad Orientation – This exciting in-country orientation will get you acquainted with both the local culture and your new surroundings, and will help you get accustomed to the Aussie way of life.  You will also meet fellow students spending the semester in Sydney as well!

Professional development complements personal growth - With a 10 or 20 hour per week internship, you will get to work alongside professionals in your field. That means you might have to head home a bit earlier from a barbeque from time-to-time, but your internship experience will be more than worth it!

You will take part in the CISabroad Adventure Orientation where you will explore all that the area has to offer while enjoying traditional Aussie activities. Details are to be determined, but you can expect to explore some areas outside of Sydney while being introduced to the Aussie culture and your fellow CISabroad Study Internship in Sydney participants as well as those studying in other locations in Australia.

For the Study Internship at University of Sydney program with CISabroad, you will enroll in courses just like a standard study abroad student, except one or two of your courses will be an internship. Internships are considered academic in nature, for which 3 credits are awarded for each 10-hour-per-week internship undertaken. Two 13-week semesters will be offered at University of Sydney, one beginning in March and the second beginning July.  

GPA Required: 3.2.  Do not worry if you find your GPA is lower than the required number!  You can contact us via the “Contact an Advisor” button on this page or call us to explain your situation.  We’ll do everything we can to find the correct program for you!

How to choose your courses

This is the fun part!  Part of the application process requires you to fill out a CISabroad Course Selection Worksheet that can be found in the CISabroad Application Page.  The instructions for choosing your courses can be found below. 

Course load: 4 classes (12-16 U.S. credits)

Course approval: It is best if you are able to get 7-8 classes approved before heading overseas.  This will give you some flexibility when setting up your class schedule.  Make sure to consider the courses that are required for your major, but also think about classes that fulfill any elective requirements that you may have.

Sydney is considered to be the gateway to Australia and has been hailed as both a cosmopolitan and dynamic city that combines history and culture with beautiful scenery.  Sydney is Australia’s largest city with a population of 4 million and its location along the southeast coast of the Tasman Sea makes Sydney Harbor one of the most stunning in the world, complete with easy-to-reach sandy beaches nearby!  The city is famous for its Sydney Opera House, which has been listed as a World Heritage site, and the restaurants and cafes give the city another boost by providing visitors with outstanding fresh, local produce and world-class wines.  All of this, combined with a sunny and moderate climate and a relaxed lifestyle, makes Sydney a great place to visit.

Study Internship in Sydney offers two different housing options: off-campus or on-campus apartments

In the off-campus apartments you will live in a university-sponsored apartment that’s a 15-minute walk (or less) from the center of campus. Apartment amenities include shared or single rooms (for an additional fee) with twin beds, individual desks, and built-in wardrobes in all of the bedrooms. Kitchens come fully equipped, the living is fully furnished and comes with a television, and there is a space for dining. Laundry facilities are also available at the off-campus apartments.

The on-campus apartments offer shared or single rooms (for an additional fee), with a social atmosphere and modern ammenities, such as a student lounge, outdoor entertainment area, ping pong, internet cafe, and volleyball court. Coin-operated laundry is available on-site. All apartments are fully-furnished and include spacious living and dining areas, a porch, plenty of storage, and ample study space. 

Right across the street from the campus is a huge shopping mall, complete with grocery stores, a movie theater, and an ice-skating rink, where you can purchase all of your daily necessities. And since the University has its own subway stop, you can hop a quick train into the city any time you want!
